Mr. Smithers has over 30 years business and management experience. He has held management positions with Royal Dutch/Shell companies in both New York and London and with Valero Refining and Marketing in Houston.
In these companies he had management and profit responsibility for marketing, supply, trading, and distribution, as well as responsibility for operations planning, strategic planning, financial services, and business development. He has been involved in both domestic and international markets. He has negotiated and managed joint ventures and acquisitions. He has also run a small company where he significantly increased the company's net worth and redirected the company for acquisition. His accomplishments include:
- Establishing, organizing, and growing a profitable wholesale marketing and trading activity through market analysis, planning, information feedback, and customer satisfaction.
- Redirecting marketing efforts into new classes of trade and new geographic area that allowed increased production of higher value products and increased profitability.
- Developing a 5 year strategic plan to maximize return on new production assets while complying with new government regulations and repositioning company in the industry.
- Managing and directing the organizational transition of commercial activities resulting from an acquisition that doubled personnel, tripled sales volume, and increased transaction volume by a factor of five.
- Conducting analysis, negotiation, and establishment of a joint operating company for a $150 million joint venture with a major international chemical company.
While with a small consulting company, Mr. Smithers worked on several projects including one as co-manager of a business process and IT systems analysis for a Fortune 200 company.
Mr. Smithers is actively involved in the development of Business Advisory Boards for small and medium sized companies.
Mr. Smithers holds a degree in Mathematics from Davidson College and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate School.
