John Beddow, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Graduated from West Virginia University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism.

He pursued his career by working at the Charleston (W VA) Gazette and Daily Mail, Raleigh (NC) News and Observer, the Annapolis (MD) Capital, the Baltimore Sun, and the National Newspaper Association.

In 1980, he became Sales Promotion Manager at the Washingtonian Magazine and was later promoted to Advertising Director at their sister publication – The Baltimore Magazine.

In 1983 he was named Publisher of the Pittsburgh (PA) Business Times, moved to Houston (TX) four years later to publish the Houston Business Journal, and became Publisher of the Tampa Bay Business Journal in 1990.

While in Florida, he served on the boards of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation and the Florida Orchestra.

He returned to Houston in 1998 to again serve as HBJ’s publisher. Along with his superb team of media professionals, his most significant accomplishment is transforming the HBJ from being just a weekly print product to a 24/7 digital first multi-platform business news channel. While still a work in progress, HBJ’s weekly, online and event platforms to date have successfully grown an audience numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

He strongly believes that a good media strategy coupled with a sales and marketing program is a key to true business success.

Among his many activities he serves on the advisory board of the Houston Technology Center and serves on the board of Lemonade Day. He has appeared on the Houston PBS current affairs show Houston 8, KHOU’s Great Day Houston and Co Hosts the BusinessMakers weekly radio show with his partner Russ Capper on KNTH 1070 The Answer.
