HOUSTON, TX (SEPT. 20, 2018) - Silver Fox Advisors announced the October 2018 Lunch & Learn Program, scheduled for Thursday October 25, 2018, will feature Texas Senator Paul Bettencourt and David Jones (host of Channel 8’s popular Red, White and Blue Program). The topic will be “POLITICS – THE 2018 ELECTIONS”. With the current political environment and upcoming election this will be a vey timely and engaging program.
Elected to the Texas Senate in 2014, Senator Paul Bettencourt represents Senate District 7, which encompasses West Harris County. He previously served 10 years as the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector, where he introduced “Smart Government” at the Harris County Tax Office and developed a customer service-driven organization. His team created the first major online property tax payment system and the first county tax office website with online vehicle registration in Texas. (His motto was “Get on-line, not in-line.”) He was well known as the "Tax Man" for his outspoken efforts to cut property taxes.
Senator Bettencourt is the Chair of the Senate Select Committee of Property Tax Reform, the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Government Reform, and serves on the Senate Finance, Education, and Higher Education committees. Additionally, he is also the Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee and elected Chair of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus by his Senate colleagues. He also serves on the Joint Committee on Government Facilities and is an active member of the ongoing Texas Commission on Public School Finance, where he is the Chair of the Revenue Workgroup.
A proud graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution, Senator Bettencourt is the President and CEO of Bettencourt Tax Advisors, LLC, a tax consulting company in Houston that has grown to forty employees. He is also a radio and television personality.
The Senator and his wife Susan are active members of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, where Paul is a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
David A. Jones is a Houston Attorney and serves as Of Counsel for the firm of John R. Bartos, Attorney at Law. His current practice focuses primarily on criminal defense law.
He has represented companies facing legislation and regulation. David has contributed articles on political affairs and public policy to the editorial pages of the Houston Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News, and other Texas newspapers. David holds a B.A. and a law degree from the University of Houston, David was an Assistant District Attorney of Harris County from 1978 through 1980. From September 1989 until 1994, David hosted and co-produced Pressing Issues, a live one-hour public affairs television program with viewer participation broadcast weekly on Access Houston television.
He has been a frequent guest commentator on political matters for two Houston radio programs. Additionally, David co-hosted a Houston radio program covering political issues and ideologies called Hunter & Jones, which broadcasted live daily from 1-3 p.m. in 1997 and 1998 on 97.1 FM.
