SILVER FOX ADVISORS PRESENT
"THE INVISIBLE WAR"
HOUSTON, TX (January 14, 2019) - Silver Fox Advisorsannounced the February Lunch & Learn Program, scheduled for Thursday February 28, 2019, will feature ERIC C. BOTTS. He will be speaking about “THE INVISIBLE WAR”.
We live in a connected world. The same technology that allows us to transact freely online, to remotely monitor and control operations of complex industrial processes, also allows nefarious individuals and organizations access to the same platforms. Here are a few examples.
● In 2017, the WannaCry ransomware attack infected and estimated 230,000 computers worldwide by combining known malware with a leaked NSA hacking tool.
● Also in 2017, the NotPetya ransomware attack cost Merk, FedEx, and Maersk a combined total of at least $1,000,000,000.
• In 2018, hackers working for the Russian government were able to gain access to the control rooms of US electric utilities, allowing them to cause blackouts.
It is easy to see that the potential harm - macro and micro economic damage, environmental damage, etc. - is almost incalculable. In fact, The World Economic Forum has included cyber attacks in its top five global risks in its 2018 and 2019 Global Risk Report.
Mr. Eric C. Botts will address this Invisible War, and explain these risks and what we should be doing as individuals, organizations, and as a society to prevent or minimize attacks and mitigate the consequences. Mr. Botts is eminently qualified to discuss this topic.
Eric Botts is an independent contract project manager with Swailes & Company, Inc. Mr. Botts manages complex security improvement programs for clients in response to investigation reports and provides documentation to company and clients designed to mitigate documented threats and vulnerabilities.
Eric holds a BA Political Science degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, where he also did his graduate studies. In addition, Mr. Botts has a Masters of Security Management from the University of Houston Downtown.
