A Look at Super Bowl LI
HOUSTON, TX (Dec. 10, 2016) - Silver Fox Advisors announced today their January 2017 Lunch & Learn Program, scheduled for Thursday January 26, 2017, will feature Houston Sports Radio Legend Barry Warner.
Barry Warner recently started his 61st season involved in both media and marketing. His colorful career started in the mid-50’s in his hometown of Buffalo NY, working as a “gofer” for the top sports station in the city. The big break came with the Buffalo Bills, where he worked his way up from a ball boy to writing and producing sportscasts for then Bills star quarterback Jack Kemp and traveling with the Bills as part of their radio network.
In 1966, at the height of the war between the AFL and rival NFL, he was hired by AFL Commissioner Al Davis and sent to Houston to work in scouting and football administration for the Oilers. He then went on to scout for legends in the NFL like George Halas, Paul Brown, Oakland Raider owner Al Davis and new member Ron Wolf.
For the first 12 years of Monday Night Football Warner wrote scouting reports for the incomparable Howard Cosell. He was also involved with real estate in both property management and research for a local real estate developer.
In the mid 70’s, Warner returned to the airwaves. Over the next several decades he meshed his sports knowledge and controversial style in several facets of the industry. He was Sports Director at KIKK and television analyst for the Houston Rockets, Southwest Conference football, baseball, and basketball on HSE and Channel 20.
In 1986 he moved to Denver where he joined the NBA Nuggets, working in sales and marketing. Barry went back on the air in 1987, hosting the “Sportsmouth” talk show with former Bronco QB Craig Morton. He returned to Houston in 1988 as a talk show host, TV commentator on Sports Sunday and producer.
Since the early 1980’s, Warner has been active in the Sunshine Kids Foundation, Special Olympics, Bum Phillips Charities, and Boys and Girls Harbor.
In 2009, the colorful Warner rejoined SportsRadio 610 as the co-host of the Odd Couple show, with a partner 40 years younger than he. Their ratings outdistanced the combined number of listeners of all three of their competitive stations during the 6-10 p.m. time slot. He retired from KILT in May 2013 but returned to the airwaves in three years ago with Gow Media.
Barry is heard twice daily with his commentaries on ESPN 97.5 FM as well as daily between 10-11 hosting REALITY CHECK on 1560 AM.
Richard Hendee, President of the Silver Fox Advisors, stated, “We are so fortunate to have Barry Warner provide us with his insight for this great sporting event (Super Bowl LI) that will be held right here in Houston, Texas on Sunday February 5, 2017. You have heard Mr. Warner on the Radio and now you can meet this Houston Sports Radio Legend in person”.
