"Houston Demographics 37 Years of Evolution"

Lunch and Learn

Thursday, March 28th, 2019

Dr Stephen Klineberg, Ph.D.

HOUSTON, TX (January 24, 2019) - Silver Fox Advisors announced the March Lunch & Learn Program, scheduled for Thursday March 28, 2019, will feature Dr Stephen Klineberg, Ph.D.. He will be speaking about “Houston Demographics 37 Years of Evolution”.

Houston clearly exemplifies the trends that are refashioning the social and political landscape across America. The new high-tech, knowledge-based, fully global economy is generating mounting inequalities based primarily on access to quality education. At the same time, an epic transformation is underway, as this nation, once predominantly composed of European nationalities, is rapidly becoming a microcosm of all the world’s ethnicities and religions. As urban regions compete for the most skilled “knowledge workers” in the new economy, quality-of-place attributes now increasingly determine the fates of cities.

In his presentations and forthcoming book, Dr. Klineberg reviews the findings from 37 years of Houston surveys to show how the new realities are unfolding, to assess the changing attitudes and beliefs of the general public, and to consider the implications of these ongoing trends for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Our presenter, Dr. Stephen Klineberg, has been shaping local thought on the ongoing trends in the Houston metropolitan region for almost forty years. As a Founding Director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, he leads the annual “Kinder Houston Area Survey” (1982-2018), which has tracked the economic outlooks, demographic patterns, experiences, and beliefs of area residents during a period of remarkable change. His book, Prophetic City: Houston on the Cusp of a Changing America, will be released early in 2020. A Professor Emeritus of Rice University, Dr. Klineberg is the recipient of twelve major teaching awards and a much sought-after speaker in the Houston community and beyond. He is a graduate of Haverford College, with an MA from the University of Paris, and a PhD from Harvard. He and his wife Margaret have lived in Houston since the early 1970s; they have two children and five grandchildren.
