Herb Kalman is a native Houstonian. Starting in Junior High School with a paper route, Herb worked throughout High School and College, graduating from the University of Houston in 1968 with a BBA, accounting major.
Herb’s accounting career includes being promoted to partner with a national accounting firm, starting two accounting firms both of which were grown organically and through merger and were ultimately sold to national accounting firms.
During his accounting career, he worked in the following professional areas:
• Audits of public and private companies
• Tax compliance and planning
• Business valuations/litigation support
• Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) valuations, transactions and consulting
• Merger and acquisition
• Other specialty consulting
Of further note, Herb has worked on over 50 ESOP transactions and performed over 150 ESOP valuations. Currently, he is on the Board of Directors of an ESOP company.
Herb is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and the Houston Chapter of the TSCPA. He is also a member of the Merger and Acquisition Forum and the Private Directors Association. Prior to retiring from public accounting, Herb was a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) and maintained his certification of Certified Valuation Analyst with NACVA and his Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF).
