Steve is a native Houstonian and a 1963 graduate of Bellaire High School. He received his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1967. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Corning Glassworks Traveling Fellowship for the independent study of international business opportunities. This grant enabled Steve to spend a year from 1967 to 1968 traveling through 45 countries around the globe. He received his J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1971.
Steve has practiced law since 1972 and has served as a trusted advisor, counselor, businessman, and leader of non-profit organizations. He has extensive experience in commercial law, business organizations, management, sales, finance, leasing, brokerage and construction. During his legal career, he has represented both public and private companies, as well as individuals, in a broad range of business matters, with particular emphasis on all aspects of real estate transactions. Steve’s experience as a businessman includes serving as President and COO of a significant shopping center development company.
Steve is the co-founder and President of Keeping PACE in Texas, a non-profit organization that successfully promoted the enactment of PACE-enabling legislation in Texas. Under this law, property owners may obtain low-cost, long-term, private-sector financing for energy efficiency and water conservation improvements to commercial, industrial and multi-family properties. Steve also serves on the Board of the Texas PACE Authority, a non-profit organization that implements PACE programs on behalf of city and county governments throughout Texas.
Steve and his wife, Janis, have 3 married children and 6 grandchildren.
